A youth group, New Generation Leadership (NGL) has endorsed musician and producer, Bankole Wellington who is vying to represent Eti-Osa constituency at the Federal House of Representatives under the platform of Modern Democratic Party (MDP).
The group also endorsed a business mogul, Babatunde Aleshinloye-Williams who is also vying to represent Somolu Constituency ll at the Lagos House of Assembly under People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The group said it is supporting the two candidates as part of its resolve to continue to support vibrant and credible youth contesting on the platform of any political party in any part of Nigeria or any genuine candidate, who have virile developmental programmes for the youth in the 2019 election, according to a statement by its Secretary, Adedayo Adegbayibi.
The New Generation Leadership, said in the statement, “though it was disheartening to note that the system is skewed against the youth, there is hope in the fact that the youth has great numerical strenght, that can always sway elections, if they come together as one”.
‘The youth must come together and support those in the category to be heard and seen in the political space. The 2019 elections should not be about political parties, but about personalities who are competent, credible and committed to a new Nigeria that will work for all”.
“The beauty of democracy lies in Its natural internal seamless change of government without any let or hindrance, when desired by the electorates, in a free and fair election. And this is what must be encouraged in Nigeria, by calling on the youth to participate actively in the electoral process.”
NGL also cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, not to allow the destruction of all democratic norms and values in Nigeria by compromising the electoral process.
“To avoid anarchy, the 2019 elections must be well conducted in a free and fair setting,” the group said.
