After several weeks of speculations, Hafiz Abubakar, the deputy governor of Kano state has resigned and decamped from the ruling All Progressives Congress to the opposition, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Hafiz announced his defection on Sunday.

The deputy governor is a strong ally of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of the state, who defected from APC alongside other senators about two weeks ago.

Hafiz had earlier indicated that he would also decamp to PDP, following Kwankwaso’s defection  to the opposition party.

While stating the reasons for his defection and dumping of Governor Ganduje government, Hafiz said: “I have endured immeasurable and unjustifiable humiliation for over two and a half years without any reason other than my principled position on the issues of governance and the desire to keep the government on track.

“Under the circumstances and given the deteriorating state of affairs and your continued disrespect for the office of the deputy governor as well as your expression of several injustices on my person. I regret to say that I have no option than to succumb to my inner calling.”

Hafiz Abubakar, a professor who admitted that he was hand-picked by Kwankwaso, to be the running mate of Governor Ganduje in 2015 had in December 2017 indicated that he may return to Bayero University, Kano at the end of their tenure in 2019.
