Six members of a market union were on Thursday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, over alleged violence threat.

The accused, Anthony Animalu, 53; Nathaniel Nwadinkpa, 47; Philip Ezeabasili, 35; James Onwugamba, 55; Obinna Obijiofor, 45; and Polycarp Egwuonwu, 54, are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and threat to commit violence.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Steven Molo, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 19, at Aspanda Trade Fair Complex, Ojo, Lagos.

He said that the accused persons conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.

“The accused persons threatened to kill some members of the union if they failed to conduct election into the executive positions of the union on or before Aug. 7,’’ the prosecutor said.

He said that the accused also incited some members of the union to cause mayhem at the market.

The offences contravened Sections 56, 168 (d) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. O. Oshin, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N200, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Oshin said that the sureties must be gainfully employed, show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 8, for mention.
