The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), says it will collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology to train Science teachers in the six geo-political zones of the country.

Prof. Ibiyinka Fuwape, the National President of the organisation made this known on Thursday in Abuja during a courtesy visit to the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

Fuwape said the aim of the training was to improve teaching value and competence of science teachers in class rooms, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

“ We want to train science teachers on how to teach pupils on science subjects in an interesting way; we will also train them on how to identify and to use science equipment,’’ she said.

She said that the organisation was passionate about sensitising children, especially girls to pursue Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

The don said that the scope and coverage of the project would be holistically considered with the ministry.

In his response, Onu said the ministry would partner any organisations with relevant goals like OWSD to improve Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in the country.

The minister said the ministry of education would be involved in retraining of the teachers.
