The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the state government to collaborate with security agencies in order to strengthen security in public schools in the state.

This followed a resolution on a motion moved by Hon. Joshua Oyebamiji (APC- Akinyele I) during plenary on Thursday.

In the motion entitled, “ Need to Beef up Security in Public Schools, ‘’ Oyebamiji said that urgent measures have to be taken to safe guard students and government property in public schools, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

“It is of concern that most of the equipment meant for learning have been carted away by thieves who take advantage of the porous state of government-owned schools.

“When laboratory and technical equipment are not available in our schools, students will not be exposed to practical learning,” he added.

The House presided over by the Speaker, Mr Olagunju Ojo, called for the replacement of old and retired security guards in schools across the state.

It said that this would help to reduce the increasing case of vandalism of government property in public schools.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has passed the State Coroner Bill 2018 into law.

This followed a report presented by the Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Mr Silas Okunlola.
