Former Governor of Bauchi State, Malam Isa Yuguda on Sunday urged Islamic Scholars to use their knowledge in mobilising the people to help reverse the negative development indices in the North.

Yuguda made the appeal on Sunday in Bauchi at a workshop for Islamic Scholars under aegis of Movement for Peace and Tolerance.

“No knowledge is a waste, both Islamic and the western knowledge cannot be a waste if effectively used.

“Put your knowledge to use and see how you will improve the society with it.

“Islamic education covers on all facets of life, the science, arts and humanity, which are relevant in the process of development.

“The Northern part of the country is backward in in terms of economic and educational development, high rate of Maternal Mortality when compared to the southern part of the country.

“When we should look at all those indices you will realise that the North is backward.

“You should therefore use your knowledge to transform the region and the country at large,” he said

The former governor also urged the Islamic scholars to preach peace and tolerance among their followers, to enhance harmony and peace in the country.

“I see no reason why we are violating the norms of God who knows why He created us and keep us in one place,”he said

He cautioned against using religion to for political gains and incitement to anarchy.

Yuguda urged the scholars to also mobilise eligible voters to acquire their voter cards, adding that, “it is the voter card that will give you the opportunity to votes for credible candidates.” ‎

Earlier, one of the Islamic scholars, Mustapha Ilelah warned religious leaders against hate speeches, inflammatory and inciting sermons.

“Preachers should preach love, peace and unity, which are the cardinal values of all religions,” he stressed
