Sultan Abubakar

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, on Monday, urged parents to mobilise their children and wards for immunisation in the state.

Abubakar, represented by the District Head of Shuni, Alhaji Muhammad Jabbi, made the call during distribution of Zakkat proceeds in Binji Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The monarch said “as leaders, one of our major responsibility is to ensure better health condition for the society.

“So, I urge parents to ensure that their children are immunised against child killer diseases, as doing so will surely fulfill the desire of ensuring healthier and productive society.

“Moreover, these children are the future generation that need to be fully taken care of, immunising them will serve as way toward healthier generation.”

Abubakar said the Sokoto Sultanate Council would continue to ensure the success of programmes that would be of benefit to the society.

The Chairman of the Zakkat Commission, Malam Lawal Maidoki, stressed the need for individuals to engage in economic tree planting.

Maidoki said the gesture was highly recommended in Islam, as such act would be of benefit to the general population.

The chairman further called on parents to enroll their children in school to become productive to themselves and to the society, according to the News Agency of Nigetia, NAN.

He commended members of the District Zakkat Committee for their perseverance and selfless service.

The District Head of Binji, Alhaji Kabiru Usman, appealed to political leaders to give out Zakkat and endowment as enshrined in the teachings of Islam.

He announced that seven goats and a cow, 277 bags of grains and N466,400 cash were collected as Zakkat in the area for distribution to the needy.

The Deputy Chief Imam of Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo Juma’at Mosque, Malam Zaruku Naliman, said giving Zakkat and its distribution were obligatory in Islam, “as such, any wealthy Muslim who does not give Zakkat for the purpose of distribution has committed a great sin in Islam.

“Allah has directed Zakkat committee to force such individuals to give out Zakkat to save the society from disaster.”
