A Medical Doctor, Dr Kikere Ramson, who was kidnapped over three weeks ago while attending to patients in his consulting room at the Oboloma Health center in Asari-Toru local government area of Rivers State has regained his freedom.

Public Relations officer for the Rivers State Chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr.Justice Ohaka, confirmed  the release of Dr Ramson this morning.

Dr Ohaka disclosed that the NMA and members of the doctor’ s family are happy that he was set free five days ago unharmed.

He  appealed to the society to recognize that medical Doctors are rendering selfless service.

On whether ransom was paid to the kidnappers before Dr. Ramson was set free, the NMA spokesman did not clarify.

But he insisted that it is counterproductive to kidnap medical doctors rendering humanitarian service.

The state Commissioner for Health, Prof. Princewill Dike had condemned the act describing the act, saying it is “unnecessarily sacrilegious to abduct a Doctor while attending to patients in his Consulting Room”.
