The Federal Ministry of Transportation, (Aviation section)) has clarified the certification status of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport,  MMIA Lagos and Nnamidi Azikiwe International Airpot, NAIA, Abuja, noting that the two airports were certified by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA and not the International Civil Aviation Authority, ICAO as erroneously reported in the media.

Mr. James Odaudu, a Deputy Director, Press and Public Affairs in the ministry made the clarification in a Press Release Friday in Abuja.

Please recall the recent certification of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, Lagos and the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja which are milestones in the nation’s aviation industry.

“It is pertinent to clarify that the exercises were carried out by the Nigerian Civil Aviation authority (NCAA) and not the International Civil Aviation organisation (ICAO).”

The Deputy Director however explained further that “the certification of the two airports was implemented by Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority in line with Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations (NCARS) Part 12, ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices and provisions of Annex 14.”

Odaudu said the “Ministry expresses absolute confidence in the capacity and capability of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to carry out its regulatory duties and pledges its commitment to further improve its enablement to keep up the good job it is doing.”

He described the certifications as a milestone achievement.
