Against the background of speculations of a cover up plot, the Police Command in the FCT on Monday assured that it is investigating the death of the son of a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Bilyamin Bello.

Bilyam was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife, Maryam, in Abuja over the weekend.

Maryam had reportedly gave her husband multiple stabs which resulted in his death after she stumbled on a text message indicating his involvement in extra-marital affairs with a yet to be known lady.

In the gory incident, Maryam was said to have stabbed her late husband multiple times on the chest, shoulder and the inner thigh.

The deceased, according to reports died at Maitaima hospital where the wife took him to for treatment following the stabbing.

But there were speculations on social media on Monday that the family of the deceased is working hand in hand with Maryam’s mother to frustrate the investigation of the murder.

Maryam was said to have confessed to family members , hospital authorities and police officers called in from Maitaima Police Station that she indeed stabbed her husband to death.

However, the speculations on Monday was that she has changed her story after speaking with with her mum, an influential banker and Abuja socialite.

Maryam, it was gathered, now claimed that her late husband sustained the injuries that led to his death when he fell on a broken shisha pot as two of them were fighting.

She told the Police that she never confessed to stabbing or hitting her husband.

There are also allegations that the the bloodstained floor and bedroom wall tiles have been ‘mopped clean’ ,  while weapons allegedly used for the stabbing have  been disappeared as part of the efforts to frustrate the investigations.

But the Public Relations Officer of FTC Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja  that immediately Maitama Police Division received the information about the death, it went to the scene and arrested the suspect.

He explained that the FCT command had since taken over the case from Maitama Division, and that the suspect was in its custody.

According to him, investigation was ongoing, and that the case would be charged to court and “justice will take its course”.
