The Federal Road Safety Corps has denied reports that one of its officials collected N10, 000 bribe from a motorist, saying the incident is neither true nor recent.

The media are covered with reports of a man, Clems Jnr, who claimed on social media that he was forced to pay an FRSC official N10,000 bribe because he did not use his seatbelt. But, unfortunately for the FRSC official, he forgot his iPhone 7 in the car.

The Spokesman for the Corps, Bisi Kazeem, in a statement dismissed the reports as “fake and unsubstantiated”, adding that the “story is a recirculated one that is not fresh nor recent”.

He said, “The story came up some months back and was addressed by my humble self. The story was fake and unsubstantiated. Also noteworthy is the fact that the personnel in the picture attached is not that of FRSC but that of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

“Please zoom in properly to see the logo on the uniform of the attached picture and you will identify the owners of the uniform in question. It is therefore disheartening that some bloggers will use a recirculated story as fresh and not even verify nor authenticate the facts before feeding unsuspecting readers lies and fabricated stories.

“For the avoidance of doubt, let me reiterate that the story is a fallacy as far as the FRSC is concerned and would want to disassociate itself from the contents therein.

“We advise that proper investigation be done in the future if an allegation that concerns integrity of a corporate organisation that is known for discipline and high moral standard is concerned.”
