Man, 30, arraigned for assault

A 30-year-old man, Lawal Yusuf, who allegedly assaulted a co-tenant with a metal flash light, was on Wednesday charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Yusuf, who resides at Amukoko area of Apapa, is facing a charge of assault.

According to the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Olusegun Kokoye, the accused committed the offence on July 9 at their residence.

He said the accused assaulted the complainant, Justice Fayemi, by using a metal flash light hit his head and other parts of the
body.

Kokoye said the accused claimed that the complainant abused him during an argument and that provoked the attack.

“All efforts made by some other tenants to settle the dispute failed.”

The offence contravened Section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.

The accused, however, denied the charge.

In his ruling, the Senior Magistrate, Mr M.A. Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case until Nov.11 for mention.
