Road race: SWAN solicits media support

The Bayelsa chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has solicited media partnership to cover its six-kilometre road race fixed for Aug. 30.

Mr Alambo Datonye, state Chairman of the Association, told journalist on Wednesday in Yenagoa that the partnership was critical to promoting sports in the state and country.

Datonye, who disclosed that the Association had visited the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Channel 28 Yenagoa and some other media houses, said the race was for all journalists in the state.

He said that the Association would visit other media organisations to solicit their cooperation for the race.

“The road race is fixed for Aug. 30, we have started engaging the Media in the state; the first port of call was the NTA Channel 28 Yenagoa.

“The support is to promote the race and sports development in Bayelsa and the nation; the General Manager, NTA Yenagoa, Mr. Isaac Ola Oluyemi has assured full assistant to disseminate the information to the public.

“We are still moving to engage other media in the state; the race is to be Bayelsa holds on Wednesday, Aug. 30, from INEC junction to the Samson Siasia Sports Complex, Ovom, Yenagoa.

“The State Commissioner for Sports Development, Mr Perekiye Buruboyefe will flag- of the race at 6 am,” he said.

He said that the race would encourage Journalists to exercise regularly and be fit at all times.

Datonye urged the journalist in the state to avail themselves of the opportunity and participate fully in the programme, noting that exercise was as good as food we eat.
