President Buhari signing the resumption letter to be sent to the National Assembly

Though he wrote National Assembly to indicate his resumption of duties after over a 100 days medical vacation in London, President Muhammadu Buhari will work from his official residence for now, presidency sources said on Monday.

Buhari, returned to the country on Saturday and addressed the nation through a national broadcast on Monday morning.

But the source said the President will not be able to resume in his office immediately because of the ongoing renovation work there.

The presidential source however said that the President has actually resumed work at home.

Speaking with State House correspondents on Buhari’s resumption in office, the Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, confirmed that the President has communicated his resumption to office to the National Assembly.

“Yes, some few minutes past 11, the President signed the letter notifying the National Assembly of his resumption. A copy has been sent to the Senate President and also has been sent to the Speaker, House of Representatives, so the President has resumed.”

Adesina  confirmed the development in  a statement he later issued.

“President Buhari had returned to the country on August 19, and in a letter dated August 21, 2017, he told the Senate as well as the House of Representatives, that he was resuming office,’’ Adesina said in the statement.

Part of the letter read: “In compliance with Section 145 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), I write to intimate you that I have resumed my functions as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with effect from Monday, 21st August, 2017, after my medical follow-up in the United Kingdom.”

President Buhari left for a medical follow-up in London on May 7, 2017.

Prior to that, he had entrusted the reins of government to the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who functioned as the Acting President.
