The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, has commiserated with the first lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs Sia Koroma over the unfortunate mudslide that killed over 300 people in Sierra Leone.

Mrs Buhari’s condolence message was contained in a letter delivered by the Senior Special Assistant to the President Dr Hajo Sani, to the Sierra Leonean high commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Afsatu Kabba, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Buhari, who expressed her heartfelt condolences to Mrs Koroma, and Sierra Leone people prayed to Almighty God to give the families the fortitude to bear the loss.

“As we mourn those that lost their lives, we also continue to pray to Almighty God to give the families the fortitude to bear the loss” she said.

She described the mudslide which destroyed property worth millions of dollars as a tragedy not only for the people of Sierra Leone but also for the continent.

The wife of the President, however, asked her Sierra Leonean counterpart to extend her condolence to President Ernest Koroma.

“Mrs Koroma, please extend my heartfelt sympathy to your dear husband, President Ernest Bai Koroma, may God give you all the strength and wisdom to overcome this devastating situation,” she said.

In her response, the Sierra Leonean high commissioner to Nigeria, Dr Afsatu Kabba, expressed her appreciation to Mrs Buhari for identifying with the people of Sierra Leone at this trying time.

Kabba, who expressed her deep shock at the situation, said that this is a terrible disaster and we pray it does not happen again to any nation.

” This devastation really hit the country that no one is happy and this is indeed a sad moment for us.

” But, in life whatever God has destined it will happen, we pray that this tragedy should not happen to any country, we thank Mrs Buhari for showing concern,” Dr Kabba said.

The Sierra Leone Ambassador to Nigeria promised to deliver the condolence letter to Mrs Koroma.

On August 14 a mudslide had killed hundreds of people on the outskirts of Sierra Leone’s capital Freetown.
