A 35-year-old man, Jacob Solomon, was on Friday arraigned at a Wuse zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court for impersonating a police officer.
The defendant, who resides at life camp, Abuja, is charged with impersonation by wearing the uniform of a police officer of Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The prosecutor, Haruna Musa, told the court that the defendant was arrested while committing the act at about 8.30 p.m. on July 3 at Karimo Fish Market bus stop in Abuja and brought to Karimo police station.
He said that the defendant while in the police uniform stopped commercial motorcyclists and demand for money from riders.
He added that Solomon threatened to seize the commercial motorcycles from the owners if they failed to comply, an offence which contravened Section 132 of the Penal Code.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and the Magistrate, Muhammed Tahir, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Tahir said the surety must be a civil servant who resides within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case till Aug. 17 for hearing. (NAN)
