Ademola Adeleke: wins Osun senatorial seat

Governor Rauf Aregbesola has congratulated Mr. Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on his victory in the Osun West Senatorial bye- election held on Saturday.

The Governor who was happy that the election was devoid of violence also noted that important lesson has been learnt from the outcome.

Aregbesola wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday: “I congratulate Ademola Adeleke on his victory at the polls yesterday.

“The people have spoken. Democracy won and we respect the people’s choice. I thank our supporters for their continued show of commitment to our cause.

“Important lessons have been learnt and we will be back stronger.

“Most importantly, I thank the people of Osun for once again displaying the qualities of true Omoluabis. Our election was devoid of violence.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday announced Mr Adeleke the winner of the bye-election held in 10 local government areas making up the district.

The winner is the younger brother of the late Sen. Isiaka Adeleke whose death led to vacuum in the senatorial seat.

Adeleke scored 97, 480 votes to defeat a former senator, Mudashiru Hussein of the All Progressives Congress, APC  who had 66, 116 votes.

Hussein was supported by Aregbesola in the election and his defeat was also believed to be a protest vote against the governor.
