The Federal Government has said the lone girl rescued from Boko Haram as was announced on Wednesday is not one of the 219 kidnapped from a secondary school in 2014.

AFP said the teenager was picked up by the military after fleeing from Boko Haram jihadists.

Femi Adesina, the spokesperson for the Nigerian President, told journalists after the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who presided over the meeting confirmed the rescue of one more of the kidnapped Chibok girls.

He, however, said information regarding the rescued girl was still sketchy as at the time of the briefing.

AFP however, said Laolu Akande, spokesman for Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, later tweeted that the girl was a junior secondary school “student from Chibok community”.

The news agency reports that in a text message sent to it on Thursday, Akande further confirmed that the rescued 15-year-old girl was “not part of the 219”.

The #BringBackOurGirls group, also said the girl’s name was not in their records.

“We’ve perused our list but can’t find the name of the returnee said to be 1 of our #ChibokGirls,” it said on its Twitter account.

“Whether 1 of our missing #ChibokGirls or not, we are excited over everyone who regains their freedom & we look forward to all returning,” the group which has taken up advocacy for the return of the 2019 kidnapped girls said.
