An Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos has granted a textile trader, Mrs Titilayo Momoh, N500,000 bail following her plea of not guilty to a charge of attempted suicide.
The presiding Chief Magistrate T. A. Elias, however, ordered the defendant to undergo psychiatric evaluation test before her next court appearance.
Mrs Titilayo Mlomoh, 51, was arraigned before the court on Monday by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Yaba, on a one-count charge of attempted suicide. The charge reads: “That you Titilayo Momoh ‘f’ on the 24th day of March, 2017 at about 10:00 hours at Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos did attempt to commit suicide by jumping into the river and thereby committed an offence under Section 235 Cap C17, Volume 3 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015”.
She pleaded not guilty, prosecuting Sergeant Kehinde Omisakin had no objection to the oral bail application of defence counsel, Beauty Otigi.
The defence counsel requested that the defendant should be granted bail in a liberal term.
Chief Magistrate Elias granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum, the two sureties must show evidence of tax payment. He ordered the defendant to submit herself to psychiatric evaluation and adjourned till June
