Governor Sani Bello of Niger State

The Niger State Government spent N112.5 million on scholarships to its students in 2016, according to Alhaji Mohammed Yahaya, Executive Secretary, Niger Scholarship Board.

Yahaya told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Monday, that the gesture was limited to students in tertiary institutions.

He promised that government would continue to deploy its limited resources to supporting indigent students toward academic excellence.

“We have told the students to take their studies seriously because government is committed to their welfare and shall be consistent in providing this support,” Yahaya said.

The official appealed to parents to complement government’s efforts by monitoring the conduct of their children.

“Parents must support government; together, we shall prepare the students to be assets to the society.

“We look up to this young ones for a better Nigeria in future, and shall not spare anything toward making them realise their potential,” he said.
