Valentine’s day tragedy: 3 electrocuted, several injured in Port Harcourt

It was a tragic Valentine Day for three persons who were electrocuted  early hours of Tuesday at Rumu-Omoi, Rumuigbo in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers state through a power surge from a public power supply.

Eyewitnesses from the residents said the surge was severe that even electrical appliances and walls of buildings shocked residents.
Several others were also injured in the incident.
Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company,PHED, has said it will investigate the cause of the tragic incident.
Corporate Communications Manager of the Electricity Distribution Company John Onyi empathized with families of the victims of the electrocution and called for calm saying PHED Personnel of been dispatched to the area to investigate the cause and resolve it.
 Mr Onyi also appealed to the Rumu-Omoi, Rumuigbo community to remain calm while the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company resolves the matter.
Meanwhile, a safety expert, Elias Okoro has advised Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company to avert further disaster by installing an insulator on its facilities.
He also advised residents to always wear electric gloves when changing over electric phases.
