The senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Nelson Effiong has defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Effiong, former Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
His defection was announced on the official twitter handle @NGRSenate on Thursday.
“Breaking: Senator Nelson Effiong (Akwa-Ibom South) defects from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC),” the senate tweeted.
The senator who was from the same senatorial District as the governor of Akwa Ibom State cited the division within the PDP as reason for his defection.
