Dangote cement factory, Obajana, Kogi State said it has caught and sanctioned 140 ‎truck drivers working with it for various offenses ranging from illegal haulage of products to reckless driving.

Abdullah’s Magaji, Head of the company’s patrol and monitoring ‎ unit, disclosed this to newsmen explaining that 70 of the suspects and their customers have been charged to court for prosecution.

Magaji further explained that ‎most of the arrested drivers have form the habit of hauling products that are not meant or emanate from the company. He noted that the suspected drivers, having offloaded the company’s cement product to the prospective dealer, prefers hauling other products for their personal ‎gains instead of returning back to the factory empty.

“Just recently, one of our drivers was arrested while hauling Indian hemp (cannabis) with other illegal products in Kebbi state. As we are talking now, both the driver and the owner of these illegal products ‎have been handed over to the police and the NDLEA.

“The patrol and monitoring unit, since inauguration, have been sensitizing the company’s truck drivers to always abide by the rules guiding their operation. These rules are very simple, do not haul any product outside that of the company, do not speed above the regulated meters issued to you by the company and most especially, do not drive recklessly. Those who abide by the rules are always free from punishment while the recalcitrants will continue to face the heavy harmer of the law.”

Magaji, a retired commissioner of Police also pointed that ‎ the incessant road accidents associated with the truck drivers is now a thing of the past. “I am pleased to inform you that major motor accident ‎on our highways are no longer caused by our drivers, because of the continuous sensitization and evaluation on our drivers. It may interest you to know that two qualified drivers are attached to each of the truck, gone are the days when a driver enjoy handing over steering to his motor, so he can rest.”he said
