Gunmen shoot ex-UI VC in Ibadan

A former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Olufemi Bamiro, was shot on Tuesday evening by gunmen in a failed kidnap attempt.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident took place at Oluyole area of Ibadan.

The former vice chancellor was later taken to the University College Hospital (UCH) for treatment.

The spokesman of the Oyo Police Command, Mr. Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the incident.

He said Bamiro was rescued by policemen from the Oluyole Division who responded to a distress call.

Ajisebutu told NAN that the state police commissioner, Mr. Sam Adegbuyi, had deployed the anti-kidnapping squad to go after the gunmen.
