Aisha Buhari raises hope for children with “Get Involved Programme”

The international children and aid agencies’ reports on the plight of children in Nigeria are alarming. The acute malnutrition in the Boko Haram-ravaged northeast and the general food shortage and resultant nutritional deficiencies appear really grime. Experts say about 1,200 children could die daily as result of poor diet, if urgent steps aren’t taken to stem the tide.

To respond to this threat, Aisha Buhari, the Wife of President Muhammadu Buhari organised a week-long programme at the International Conference centre, Abuja, to raise funds to for the project. The “Get Involved” event served as a platform to mobilise donations from concerned individuals and organisations towards ameliorating the biting child malnutrition in the northeast and across the country.

Her pet initiative, Future Assured, is already working with other organisations to ease the starvation of children in parts of the country.

Many donors praised Mrs. Buhari’s gesture, describing it a timely intervention to reduce the number of infant death caused by nutritional problems.

Among those who attended state are governors and their spouses, ministers, senior government advisers, representatives of charity organisations, celebrities, among others.

A cocktail dinner was organised to wrap activities at the ICC. Stakeholders and guests called on Nigerians to donate to the cause and help save dying children.
