Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr on Tuesday in Abuja assured that he would ensure that the team regained its winning mentality very soon.

Rohr, during a visit to the secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), however said the senior national football team needed all the support it could get to regain confidence.

He said this was necessary for Nigeria to return to the summit of African football.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rohr met with the NFF General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi, and the NFF management during the visit.

He said his assignment in Nigeria also included returning the country back to the top of the world football ladder.

“The confidence has not been there because the team failed to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, but when results start to come, the confidence will return.

“We will need all our best players to be at their very best. The focus is to strengthen the spine of the team and ensure they can beat any team.

“We had a good list (of players) for the Tanzania match, but a couple of players were injured and we will like to look at those ones as well,’’ Rohr said.

The Franco-German, who had earlier coached the national teams of Gabon, Burkina Faso and Niger, said he was used to the working conditions in Africa.

“I have been well received by my assistants, Salisu Yusuf and Imama Amapakabo, as well as goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu.

“The backroom staff members are also wonderful and to be received with so much warmth by the NFF management means we are all on the same page and we can work together and live as a family.

“I have a very good feeling about this job and the people I have to work with. I am also happy that the first week went very well because the players imbibed our philosophy quickly,’’ he added.

Rohr however said NFF’s National Technical Director and the Federation’s Technical Committee members have a major role to play to ensure the desired result was achieved.

“We need to have solidarity all round. The ambience is impressive,’’ he said.

Sanusi who welcomed Rohr assured that the NFF would give the technical crew all the support.

He also said it would strive to provide the conducive environment for the team to execute the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, saying the aim would be to come out tops.

“We have immense confidence in you and your staff. We will not dabble into your technical area.

“Our responsibility is to provide the right atmosphere to make you succeed, because we have seen that you are a gentleman and will not take your simplicity for granted.

“If you can work in a place like Niger Republic, I believe you will be able to work even better in Nigeria,” Sanusi said.

NAN reports that Rohr visited the NFF secretariat in company of Super Eagles Chief Coach Salisu Yusuf and the team’s Assistant Coach, Jean-Luc Royer.(NAN)
