Suspected herdsmen invade Enugu community, kill one, injure 4

Some suspected herdsmen on Thursday attacked Ndiagu Attakwu Community of Akegbe-Ugwu in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State, killed one person and injured four others.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, who visited the community to assess the situation, said the attack took place in the early hours of Thursday.

Ojukwu commiserated with the families of the victims, the community and urged them to be calm.

“I sympathise with the family of the victims as well as the entire community over the incident,” he said.

He urged them not to panic as the police command in partnership with relevant stakeholders and the State Government had stepped into the incident.

Ojukwu said that anti-riot policemen, counter terrorism personnel and operatives of the homicide section of the State Criminal and Investigation Department had been deployed to the area to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The commissioner also visited the injured persons at the Mother of Christ Hospital and Enugu State University of Science and Technology Teaching Hospital, Parklane.

He said that full scale investigations into the incident had commenced. (NAN)
