The Police in Lagos State on Thursday said they had arrested three members of robbery gang suspected to have attacked Mr Sam Amuka, publisher of Vanguard newspapers.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fatai Owoseni, paraded the suspects before newsmen at Ikeja.

Owoseni said the 81-year old publisher was assaulted by the bandits numbering about five, using iron rods and other dangerous weapons on him.

Owoseni said the three robbery suspects were arrested on Wednesday in Lagos State, revealing that they were from Chad Republic.

He said efforts were on to arrest other members of the gang.

“The three suspects had confessed to the crime. They also mentioned others involved. We are on the trail of those at large.

“We have recovered the car they used in robbing Pa Amuka. We also recovered one big hammer and iron cutter.

“The suspects are still being interrogated to know their main motive of coming to the publisher’s house’’, Owoseni said.

One of the suspects told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that the operation was organised by a security man at Mr Amuka’s house.

“The security man told his brother (now at large), who now invited us to carry out the operation. We collected only N200, 000 from him.

“One of our gang members (now at large) was the one that beat the old man with rod. We shared the money near one hotel at Anthony’’, the suspect said.

They invaded the Lagos home of Amuka, dispossessing him of some money on June 5. (NAN)
