Omisore: fights to prevent arrest

A former Senator from Osun State,  Iyiola Omisore is waging a campaign in an Abuja High court against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to prevent his arrest over a specious N442.6million contract awarded his company by the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki.

Omisore’s company,Fimex Gilt Limited was  awarded the contract , with N370 million traced to Omisore’s account.

The company after facing a Contract Review Committee, was directed to “refund the money it received from ONSA”. It  was among 241 referred to the EFCC for investigation.

But now, Omisore is fighting in the court to prevent the EFCC from arresting him to make a refund.

An FCT High Court, Maitama, on Friday adjourned till May 26, Omisore’s  case alleging  infringement on his fundamental human rights by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge, Justice Husseni Baba-Yusuf adjourned the case after hearing Counsel to EFCC, Mr Takon Ndifon and Miss Olayinka Oloruntobi, motions to regularise their proceedings.

The judge granted their requests and ordered that the proceedings be regularised before the next adjourned date.

Omisore’s Counsel, Mr Wole Jimi-Bada, had asked the court to restrain the EFCC from arresting his client, citing possible inhuman treatment.

Jimi-Bada also observed the stamp in the motion filed by counsel to the Office of the Security Adviser, Miss Olayinka Oloruntobi, was different from the person who signed it.

He requested the court to allow him access to a clearer copy, which Oloruntobi agreed to furnish the parties in the suit with a clearer copy before the end of the day.

Mr Isaac Nwachukwu, Counsel to Fimex Gilt Limited and Adetona Famedewa, was present in court.
