Leicester City FC will on Saturday be formally presented with the Barclays Premier League title.

But 24 hours away, Italy is already pouring accolades on their son, Claudio Ranieri, who led the unfancied Leicester team to the English title.

President  of the Italian Olympic Committee, Giovanni Malagò said Friday that Claudio Ranieri will receive CONI’s  top honour for a coach, the Palma d’Oro (Golden Palm.

“To say he deserves it is an understatement,” said Malagò after the Italian coach pulled off one of the most remarkable feats in modern football history.

He will receive the honour on Monday in Rome when he collects the 2016 Enzo Bearzot prize.

The Bearzot prize is awarded by the Association of Italian Christian Workers (ACLI) and by the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC).

Earlier this week Premier Matteo Renzi said that he will propose awarding a top State honour to Ranieri.
