A member, Federal House of Representatives, Olajide Jimoh, has urged the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to tread softly with the Federal Government on the proposed national minimum wage proposal of N56,000.

He disclosed this in his Lagos Office, while reacting to NLC request from government.
He said the proposal presented should not be at this time when country is experiencing dwindling economy.

Jimoh, who is representing Lagos Mainland Constituency added: “nothing wrong in presenting proposal to the federal government by labour but not at this time.”

According to him, although, the Federal Government should always think about the betterment of civil servants which is part of the plan of this administration.

“But whatever we want to do both the Labour Union and government, I think Labour Law should be considered which is of necessity,” he added.

Jimoh said when there is an improvement in the economy, the federal, state and local governments should consider the proposal and do the necessary things so that it would be easy to have effective and efficient work force in Nigeria.

While congratulating Nigeria civil servants on workers day, he urged them to be more committed, transparent and shun any act of corruption.

“Nigeria civil workers should help drive the change agenda of the present administration with a view to providing effective and efficient services to Nigerians.

“Sincerely, I know very soon by the time federal government start working out plans for civil service in this country it will boost the morale of workers for effective service delivery to Nigerians.

“On that new salary proposal, I know for sure that the sense of reasoning and wisdom would prevailed mostly at any point in time something of happen,” he said while urging labour union to exercise patient as the federal government is working hard to ensure good economy that have been destroyed by the past administration.

The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, recently jointly proposed and presented N56, 000 as the new minimum wage to the Federal Government.
