The son of the traditional ruler of Ikwuano Autonomous community in Isi Ala Mbano town of Imo state, Prince Chimaeze Oforduru has been assassinated by the yet unidentified gun men.
The heir apparent Chimaeze was brutally murdered on Saturday in Owerri, Imo State southeast Nigeria.
The assassination occurred barely few weeks after the king’s 5-year old daughter was abducted and he paid N5m as ransom for her released.
Prince Chimaeze was killed at his resident at new Owerri layout by unidentified gun men who had been trailing him.
According to his uncle and brother, Jerry, the assassins trailed Chimaeze to his house around 9 p m and poured several bullets on his body. It was learnt that they waited and ensured that Chimaeze was dead before they left the premises.
The police later went there and recovered the corpse and deposited it at the mortuary for autopsy report.
The late Oforduru was recently elected as the president of the National Association of Nigeria Traders, NANTS, Imo state chapter and was married and had two daughters.
Confirming the incident, Jerry said the community has been thrown into mourning due to the incident. He said after this, the family contacted the police from Homicide Department of SCID Owerri which took over the investigation.
He said the police should look deep to unmask those who committed the dastardly act and bring them to book.
Jerry explained that prior to his murder, his daughter was kidnapped and some suspects were arrested and later released after he paid ransom for the abductors and did not continue the matter.
The incident has thrown the community into mourning in both home and dispora.
TheNEWS gathered that the community has declared mourning while the investigation by the Police continues.
