Abuja elections: PDP loses Abaji council to APC

Incumbent Peoples Democratic Party chairman of Abaji area council in Abuja has lost the seat to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, according to the result of the election declared today.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer for the council, Bayo Emmanuel declared the chairmanship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdulrahman Ajiya, as winner of the Council.

Emmanuel said the APC candidate polled 12, 793 votes against his opponent, Alhaji Yahaya Garba Gawu of the PDP, who got 10, 076 votes.

He said “the APC candidate having satisfied the requirements of the electoral law and scored the highest votes is hereby declared the winner of the April 9, 2016 Council election in Abaji.”

In another development, the INEC has declared the councillorship election for Nuku/Sabon Gari ward in the area inconclusive, following violence at Kekeshi polling unit.

The INEC Electoral Officer in the area said a date will be set to conduct a re-run election in the area.
