Six cadet and junior table tennis players on Monday departed the country for Algiers, Algeria, to participate in the Junior and Cadet Open/International Table Tennis Federation Junior Circuit.

The team comprising of three male and females respectively departed Lagos aboard a Turkish Airline aircraft at 8.45 p.m.

The male players are Abayomi Animashaun, Amadi Omeh and Azeez Sholanke, while the females are Tosin Oribamise, Ajoke Ojomo and Nimota Aregbesola.

They were led by Dotun Omoniyi, the Head Coach, Ondo State Table Tennis Association (OSTTA).

Before their departure, Oribamise promised to give a good account of herself and promised to return with laurels.

She said that participating in the just-concluded two-day trials had prepared her for the competition.

“I am in good shape because I have just finished competing in a tournament. By God’s grace, I shall come tops in Algiers,’’ she told NAN.

In the same vein, Animashaun, who just returned from the Egypt Junior and Cadet Open last month, told NAN that his morale was high.

He said that he was going to get more medals for his collage.

“I am going with the mind to wear a fighting spirit. I want to go and play good matches as well as return with medals,’’ he said.

Also Omeh who was in Egypt last month vowed to make the country proud and make a mark in Algiers.

“I am going for serious business and will play all matches cautiously because that’s the only way I can come out tops,’’ he said.

The competition will begin Wednesday and end on April 12.
