Nationwide power outage: National grid collapses

There was a total system  collapse of Nigeria’s electricity distribution  at exactly 12.58p.m on Thursdsy.

All the Discos received zero megawatts  allocation from the system operator, the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN.

It was not the first time thst Nigeria had gone through the experience.

And it won’t be the last.

The  Federal Government of late blamed vandals and saboteurs for the problem, where power generated was too small that it could trigger a shut down of the Osogbo centre.

The cause of today’s systems collapse has not been given by TCN.

Later power minister,  Raji Fashola acknowledged there wasn’t enough power to go round.

He attributed the problem to vandals again and some outages in Jebba.

”but I am happy to report now that all the four turbines that were down, three have been restored, so there is stability now.

“It is important why the power coming from Aba is defining, its part of what I’ve spoken about. There is not enough power in the country.

“So how do you share what is not enough such that everybody gets enough? Its difficult, if not impossible.

“So what we need to do is to get more power on. So about 200 megawatts coming from there is good news for the market,” he said.
