President Touadera

Faustin Archange Touadera has been sworn in as new president of the Central African Republic .

Touadera’s election was seen as a sign to end the long-term turmoil which left many killed and homeless in the country.

At the swearing-in ceremony, Touadera said CAR had experienced a big crisis which has come  to an end and a new page  opened.

He expressed his thanks to the friendly countries, regions and international organisations for their contribution for the normalisation of the situation in CAR.

Touadera pledged that the CAR will be built into a peaceful, united and developing country. And for this purpose, the country will reinforce defence and security.

In the economic field, the new president said that a reform will be implemented in public finance, while the development of small and medium enterprises will be strengthened. Touadera also said his country will promote cooperation with friendly countries and work with the United Nations and other international organisations.

Touadera, who was prime minister from 2008 to 2013, won the second-round presidential election held on Feb. 14, defeating his opponent, Anicet-Georges Dologuele, who was also former prime minister.

His term will be five years.

Reports said he ignited a lous applause from his people when he said his government would confront the hydra-headed corruption.

Representatives from dozens of countries attended the ceremony.
