The monthly Holy Ghost Service of the Redeemed Christian Church of God clocks 30 years today, Friday, March 4. The programme which started as a result of what the church termed divine instruction in March 1986 was instituted as a result of birthday request from God by the General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye.
Recently Adeboye said, “March 2016 will mark 30 years of the Holy Ghost Service. What now is known as Holy Ghost Service started 30 years ago when I was praying to God for a birthday present.” He continued: “God asked what I needed, and I said I wanted miracles for every member of the church. God said: “Is that all you need?” To which he responded in affirmative. God then told me to organize a special service that would bring people together and he gave the name. Ever since, it has been growing bigger and better every month,” he concluded.
Since the service started when the man of God was 44 years old, and five years after he took over as the church’s General Overseer, he has not for once missed the service. Even when it was apparent that he was fragile, the moment he picks up the microphone and says, “Let somebody shout halleluiah”, the strength will come for him.
A senior pastor of the church who does not want his name to be published attributed this to “immense grace from God and Adeboye’s closer relationship with God.” He added: “When you look at his name, the Enoch there means ‘discipline and dedication.’ He is not only disciplined and dedicated to his calling, but faithful as well. There is no way God will not be faithful to him in return. He is just living according to his name,” he concluded.
The theme of this month’s Special Holy Ghost service is “The Winning Side.”
