Darius Ishaku

Jubilation on Thursday greeted the judgment of the Supreme Court that upheld the election of Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba state, who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

As the news filtered in at about 1:30p.m., celebration broke out in Jalingo, the Taraba capital, Takum and Wukari.

A long motorcade mounted with speakers singing “Taraba Sai Darius,” “DDI no shaking” rented the air in major streets in Jalingo.

Reacting to the ruling, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa, hailed the judgment, describing it as victory for the people.

He called on the supporters of the governor to be moderate in their celebration so as not to cause security breach in the state.

Mijinyawa urged the opposition in the state to join hands with the governor to move the state forward.

Also reacting, a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in the state, Mr Emmanuel Bello, said the victory was an indication that the Supreme Court had the interest of the country at heart.

He enjoined Ishaku to embrace all as a father and get everyone’s input in moving the state forward.

“Ishaku must work towards uniting the people of Taraba to achieve the goals of the rescue mission,” he said.

On his part, Taraba APC Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Ardo said he accepted the verdict of the apex court in good faith, and urged the party supporters to remain calm.

“The Supreme Court has a final say in this matter and we accept the verdict. I thank all who in one way or the other assisted us all the way,” he said.

Rev. Fr. Nicholas Kyukundu, while reacting to the ruling urged Ishaku to make real his campaign promises now that election litigation was over.

Kyukundu called on the people of the state, irrespective of party, religious and tribal affiliations to join hands with the governor to develop the state, which he noted, did not know peace for the past three years
