The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has advised Lagosians to continue to remain safety conscious with incidents that may likely cause emergency/disaster in the state this year.

LASEMA also reminded motorists to maintain a modicum of safety because of the harmattan and the early morning haze which may continue in the state till the end of February 2016.

General Manager, LASEMA, Michael Akindele warned that all necessary precautionary measures be taken to avoid fire outbreak, road accident and other incidents that could have disastrous consequences on safety of lives and properties in the state.

According to him, “the Agency has reinstated its commitment to reduce emergency and disasters to the barest minimum through continuous Public Advocacy/Campaign programmes to educate people at the grassroots across the State. One of which is the Public Advocacy programme with all stakeholders on prevention, mitigation and rescue on incessant emergency/disaster in the State which will be held at the Blue Roof LTV8 Agindingbi, Lagos this month, with the Stat Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode as the Special Guest of Honour.

“The event will involve all first responders of emergency management with presentation on prevention and recovery during emergency.”

He also noted that the Agency would continue to organize periodic Stakeholders Meeting among all the relevant stakeholders to access the level of preparedness and to identify the roles and responsibilities of all the stakeholders in the management of emergency/disaster in the State.

Akindele explained that the restructuring of the inaugurated Local Emergency Management Committee in all the 57 Local Government/Local Council Development Areas, the trained 750 Local Emergency Responders, the engagement of volunteers and also establishment of LASEMA Zonal Offices in the five division of the State would no doubt improve effectiveness and efficiency of the Agency in the management of emergency/disaster in the State.

He advised Lagosians to partner with the state government in reducing to the barest minimum occurrences of emergency/disaster which were ordinarily avoidable by adhering strictly to safety practices and all other relevant rules and regulations put in place by the present administration.
