President Muhammadu Buhari has tendered his apologies to Nigerians over the fuel scarcity that has crippled social and business life in many parts of Nigeria for the past three months.

Buhari said this on Tuesday when he presented the 2016 budget to a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The cause of the scarcity, as Buhari revealed, was due to the refusal of stakeholders in the petroleum industry to embrace change.

He said further that he had mandated the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, “to explore ways to end the scarcity as quickly as possible.”

On Monday, Lai Mohammed, the Information Minister blamed the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan for the current scarcity by refusing to pay marketers subsidy claims owed them since 2014.
