Tochukwu Ubah: charged 

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Monday, arraigned two men- Harris Alaekwe and Tochukwu Ubah, at a Federal High Court in Lagos, over alleged drug trafficking.

The accused persons were charged alongside a firm, Tovic Marine Services Ltd, on a four-count charge bordering on alleged trafficking in restricted drugs.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following a bail application, moved by their counsel, Chief Benson Ndakara, Justice Saliu Saidu, admitted them to bail in the sum of N20 million each.

They are also to produce two sureties each in like sum.

The judge added that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, while the other surety must be a public servant on grade level 17.

Saidu adjourned the case till Feb. 11 for trial.

The prosecutor, Mr Lambert Nor, alleged that the accused persons committed the offences on Nov. 18.

Nor said they were arrested at the Apapa Sea Port on the said date, for allegedly exporting about 266 kg of Methamphetamine and 310 kilogrammes of Ephedrine.

He said that the controlled substances were narcotic drugs similar to cocaine.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened the provisions of the United Nations Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961.

He said that the offences also contravened the provisions of Sections 11(b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation 2004.
