A Magistrates’ Court in Ota in western Nigerian state of Ogun on Tuesday remanded a 41-year-old man, Yusuf Garuba, in prison custody for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl.
Garuba, the alleged peadophile, who resides at Adura St, Ijaiye, a suburb of Lagos, is being tried on a charge of defilement.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rosemary Samson, told the court that the accused had an unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl at a house on Ajayi Street in the industrial town of Ota.
He said that the offence contravened Sections 215 and 249 of the Criminal Code, Revised Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Miss Temitope Adebutu, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody pending the advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Adebutu, however, adjourned the case till 4 December for mention.
