The sixth China-Japan-South Korea leaders’ meeting started in Seoul on Sunday.
The meeting continued the trilateral cooperation mechanism after a three-and-a-half-year suspension.
Chinese Premier Li Keqiang, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and South Korean President Park Geun-hye are expected to exchange views on trilateral cooperation and address issues of regional interest.
They will also jointly meet with journalists and attend a business summit.
The trilateral summit, a platform for the promotion of cooperation in Northeast Asia, took place annually from 2008 to 2012, but was interrupted since late 2012 due to worsening China-Japan and South Korea-Japan ties over historical and territorial issues.
The resumption of the meeting followed thawing relations with Japan. South Korea has also worked actively to restart the summit.
The first trilateral meeting in three years holds great significance for regional peace and stability, as well as economic development in Asia and the world, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told a press conference Monday.
