The FIFA U-17 World Cup knockout stage begins today, with Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets taking on Australia for a place in the quarter finals.

Eaglets led their Group A with six points, while Australia was a lucky qualifier in Group C, with four points.

Nigeria has been the most successful team in the world in this FIFA age grade tournament having won four titles.

And tonight  when the  Golden Eaglets  file out Estadio Sausalito Vina Del Mar, all eyes will be on striker, Victor Osimhen.

Sixteen year old Osimhen, wearing the Number 9 jersey,  is gradually inching his way into the tournament’s history books.

According to statistics, the striker’s four goals and one assist make him the highest scoring player in the group stages.

If he does go on to collect the adidas Golden Boot, he will become the third Nigerian to be named top goalscorer at a FIFA U-17 World Cup after Macauley Chrisantus in 2007 and Wilson Oruma back in 1993.

If he does, he will bring the Golden Eaglets level with Spain’s tally of three previous Golden Boot winners in this competition (Borja in 2009, Cesc Fabregas in 2003 and David in 1997.

There will be three other matches tonight to decide quarter-finalists.
