Nurses Beg El-Rufai to Pay Their Check off Dues

National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM on Wednesday in Kaduna, appealed to Governor Nasir El-Rufai to pay the three outstanding check off dues owed nurses.

Though the nurses union commended El-Rufai for releasing the three per cent check off dues deducted at source from salaries of its members from the state and local governments, it believed the governor can do more by clearing the outstandings.

In her speech during the official commissioning of the new two-storey secretariat complex, the State Chairman of NANNM, Comrade Cecilia Musa, said prompt payment of the check off dues in the past assisted the union to build a befitting secretariat and take care of welfare of distressed members.

While urging the nurses in Kaduna to place more emphasis on quality service delivery in their various designated places of work, Comrade Cecilia however assured El-Rufai of support of the union in all areas necessary to promote good and efficient health care delivery system.

In his brief remark, Governor El-Rufai, who was represented by the Health Commissioner, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok, assured the nurses of remitting the outstanding dues accrued to the union as soon as possible.

He also promised to build more primary health centres to compliment the 225 existing one in the state. Adding that the old primary health centres would not only be equipped, but equally be upgraded to standard.

To enhance capacity of nurses across the state, El-Rufai disclosed that plans have reached advanced stage to upgrade college of nursing and midwives in the state.
