Former Newcastle and Crystal Palace striker Shola Ameobi has failed in his attempt to land a playing contract with Charlton Athletic, The Mail Online has reported.
The striker has been on the look out for a new club since leaving Crystal Palace in the summer, having made just four appearances for the Eagles.
He has spent time training with the Valley club, but the club’s coaching team have opted against signing him.
Ameobi has found difficulty in securing a new club since departing Selhurst Park with Bolton, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday offering him a trial but not a deal.
The 34-year-old Nigerian is most famed for his time with Newcastle where he scored 53 goals in a total of 312 games.
As well as Crystal Palace and a brief loan spell with Stoke, Ameobi has also spent time in Turkey, featuring 11 times for Gaziantepp BB and scoring four goals.
