10 ministerial nominees scale through senate hurdle

Chief Audu Ogbeh, Lt.- Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and seven others ministerial  nominees scaled through the Senate hurdle Tuesday.

The ten ministerial nominees form part of the 37 names sent to the Senate by President Muhammadu Buhari for screening and confirmation.

The other nominees are: Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma, Dr John Kayode Fayemi, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Dr Osagie Ehanire, Mrs Amina Mohammed, Mr Suleiman Adamu and Mr Ibrahim Jibril.

The screening, which commenced after 30 minutes of closed door session, lasted between 11.04 a.m. and 5.13 p.m.

The nominees were asked questions ranging from corruption, insecurity, employment, health, agriculture, education and power among others.

Prior to commencement of screening, three bills read on the floor of the Senate scaled first reading.

They are: Resolution of the National Assembly Compliance and Binding Effects Bill 2015, Rural Areas Development Agency (Establishment etc) Bill 2015 and Nigeria Solid Minerals Development Bank (Establishment etc) Bill 2015.

The President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, announced at the end of plenary that more ministerial nominees would be screened on Wednesday, Oct.14.
