Spanish police in Majorca have busted a Nigerian gang that used black magic to force women to become prostitutes and thieves , after a five-month undercover operation.

The criminal gang forced women from Nigeria  into prostitution and also forced them to steal money, phones and laptops off tourists in Palma, Majorca.

Police said the leaders of the gang performed voodoo rituals against the women’s families in order to ensure they had their full cooperation.

In total, 30 people were arrested in Palma and Seville in the police sting, and two women who were being held captive were freed.

Officers also seized some 300 stolen mobile phones, 12 laptops, four tablets, 27 DVD players, 154 watches and 1,150 euros (£850) in cash.

The police investigation was launched in April, after officers noticed that the number of robberies and thefts of tourists had increased in the ‘entertainment’ area of the city of Palma.

Victims of the thefts said that Nigerian women had approached them, offering sexual services and then robbing them in backstreets.

On one occasion, the women used a stun gun on a tourist before robbing him.

The young women are reported to have been victims of sexual abuse themselves, and were allegedly threatened and beaten by the gang leaders.

The stolen belongings were hidden in a house in Palma and also in a property they had in the town of Bormujos, in the southern Spanish province of Seville.
