A former deputy governor of Kogi state, Mr Philip Salawu, has emerged as the candidate of the Labour Party in the governorship election scheduled for Nov. 21.

At the party’s governorship primary held in Lokoja on Tuesday, Salawu defeated his only opponent, Mr Akubor Adegbe, by 89 votes to 39.

The National Vice Chairman of the party, who was also the Returning OIfficer, Mr Adi Shirsha, commended delegates for their patience and peaceful conduct during the exercise.

He charged both Salawu and Adegbe to see the contest as a family affair, urging them to work together for the success of the party in the election.

Salawu, in his response, thanked the delegates for the mandate given him to be the standard bearer of the party and promised to use it to unite all members irrespective of their ethnic and religious affiliations.
