Police arrest 10 robbery suspects in Ijebu-Ode

Ten robbery suspects, who have been terrorising Ijebu Ode residents, have been arrested by men of the  Ogun State Police Command, in western Nigeria.

 Eight of the suspects were arrested in Molipa/Ikangba area of the town, while another two were arrested on  Olisa Street, east of the town.

The first  eight suspects were arrested at dawn today in the town, after an exchange of fire with  police operatives attached to Igbeba Division of the command.

Leader of the group,identified as Ayomide Muruf,a.k.a Sucker,sustained bullet wounds in the gun battle.

Other members of the gang arrested included Kayode(Surname yet unknown)a.k.a.Small,Tunde Ruben,Tomiwa Adekoye,Adeyemi Adegoke,Kufe Emmanuel,Moses Udoh and Akeem Adenrele,a.k.a.Polo.

In a statement released on Sunday and signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer,PPRO,DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi,he revealed that some of the robbers escaped with bullet wounds.

The police said two other  suspects identified as  Demola David and Dare Oladunjoye were arrested at Olisa Street,Ijebu Ode on the same day.

The suspects,according to the statement,have been identified as killers of Alayande Oladipo,who was shot dead in Ijebu Ode on 25 August,2015.

The suspected robbers,the Police spokesman said are those responsible for the robbery and rape cases that occurred at a private hospital in Ijebu Ode on the same day.

The suspects had robbed patients and staff of the said hospital and raped some of them during their operation at the hospital.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdulmajid Ali has commended the police operatives who were involved in the successful operation as he directed that the suspects be transferred to the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Abeokuta for further Investigation and prosecution,

He ordered that the fleeing members of the gang must be pursued and be apprehended with immediate effect.

The Police boss also assured the people of Ogun State of adequate security of  lives and property.
